Half way home

...
With the weather this great, it's tough to concentrate on anything but the weekend.

Have you seen this child? The TBI has issued an AMBER alert for him. They found the mother in New York this morning, but not the baby.

There is also a separate "Endangered Child Alert" you may wish to see.

Toyota has launched a massive recall, why? Floormats.

Job seekers, take a look, start planning, there may be something here for you.

iPhone users, remember the WREG APP is FREE! (see "3 on your cell" for your PDA) CNN is charging. So is it a phone or a GPS? or both!

An interesting take on how one country music super-star sees her work. If a fan, great reading follows here.

My children are going to be crushed when they learn of this closing. It's their favorite "Shoe Buying" place.

Now "that's what I'm talking about. "You gonna sue? Go BIG!

Upon Arrival: First he wins an Emmy, now brings home a baby.
Congrats to Jon and his wife.

In Passing: Ever heard of "Bob Stupak?" If you'd been to Vegas, chances are good you had.

What company "best symbolizes" America. "Vanity Fair" and "60-minutes" did the poll. The answer, may surprise you.

A little something to "plan for" this weekend, "Greekfest 2009" the 48th Annual Greekfest sponsored by "St. George Greek Orthodox Church" this Saturday 11-7pm. 6984 Highway 70 in Bartlett. (901) 388 5910

A Soyuzrocket blasted off early this morning (Memphis time) on the way to the Int'l Space Station, on board, the Expedition Crew 21. And... a paying passenger. They will dock with the ISS early Friday morning. You'll remember the Space Shuttle Atlantis is being readied for launch at KSC November 12th.

Are YOU looking to get away? Trying to find a place to chill? If you don't have the $$ to go into space, here are a few ideas.

In Daybreak Trivia, that "paying passenger" launched to the ISS for a 12 day stay, cost how much? AND, this submarine.

Spectacular!

...
Not sure how else to describe the weather. You have some ideas? Feel free to share them.
In the mean time, let's ride this horse all the way to Thursday. Rain is now likely Thursday night, and moving out quickly on Friday. Clearing and mild by the weekend.

A conversation with Tiger, after winning the FedEx Cup.

Were the Dallas Cowboys able to get their first win at their new home last night?

He's the champ when it comes to eating, again. And he's Kris's hero, do you know his name?

Do you ever have to be at "work" on your birthday? Here's one person that's more than happy to be at work on her birthday.

Go ahead, take a guess as to how many candles she'll be blowing out.

Any idea just "how many" APP's there are out there for your iPhone? Care to guess how many "downloads" we're talking about?

I'll bet this was a tough ticket to get. Can you imagine being on the receiving end of this?

Burger Kings sales are slipping... here's what they are about to offer you to get you back in the door.

If you are still hungry, then try this.

Did you see what Memphis Architects did to the governors mansion?

We are getting close to another launch to the Int'l Space Station.

Wow! Weather has changed

...
Okay, that cooler weather that was on back order has finally arrived, and it's going to be with us for most of the week. Check the forecast on our "weather" page from wreg.com or take a look at this "7-day" forecast. If you are travelling, check the weather where you are going, the Great Lakes and Northeast will be dealing with windy and cooler weather causing airline delays.

Dining at "Chili's" today will help St. Jude! Think about it!

Arkansas is coming into the world of "Scratch off's" and "Powerball," learn more here.

I know, I know, everyone was outside this weekend enjoying the great weather, so in case you missed any of the big sporting events, here's a quick recap.

First of all, with a minute to go, and the Vikings having turned the ball over to SF, I switched channels, thought it was over. Never underestimate Brett Favre. To find out how your team (NFL) did, go here. See how "Cories Colts," "Kris' Dolphins" did, and how "Markova's Cowboys are getting ready for tonight for the Panthers.

To see how Tiger lost the tournament (he came in second) but still won the cup, here. It has not been an easy year for "Lefty," so this win was sweet for him.

In the "chase for the cup" NASCAR fans go here.

Do you love "roller coasters?" Then why didn't you apply for this job??

Ken Burns has produced another incredible show, it's on PBS this week, first part aired last night on the "National Parks." Shows will continue this week, and if you miss them, they will eventually be available on line. There will be a "localized" version on "Shelby Farms next week.

At the "Box Office" "cloudy with a chance...." was out front!

In the "Land down Under" it was not a movie!

The "Mid-South Fair" will continue this week and on into the weekend with spectacular weather, you'll have to buy your own food, it won't be falling from the sky. Congrats to the Jr. Youth Talent winner! I was there Saturday, and love the new lay out.

In Daybreak Trivia, technical stuff! In the letter "j" what is the dot called, AND, for which president were "Blueberry" jellybeans made? More on "Jelly Bellys"

Weekend!

...
Yes... the weekend is here, and so is an end to the rain. It will taper off this evening, skies will clear over the weekend and we're still looking at much cooler weather ahead for next week.

A big "Thank you" to Austen Onek for filling in today in the weather chair. Austen was instrumental in helping us keep with Todd during
his "RailRoading in the Rockies" tour.

Okay... if you can't find anything to do this weekend, you are just not trying:

Mid-South Fair at the DeSoto Civic Center
(Saturday look for Todd and Danya there 12-2 pm, Kris and Candace 2-4 pm)

Memphest at the Memphis Fairgrounds, (their first year)

"Big Scoop" (at Autozone Park for Ronald McDonald House)

Check out this link before you go: Pop tab Palooza!

and THIS at Overton Park for you "Arts fans."

Memphis Tiger Football fans will be bringing the kids to the Liberty Bowl tomorrow for the game against Marshall!

Be sure to follow along as our Jim Jaggers is peddling 333 miles for LeBonheur. Go to the site to see inspirational stories of healing.

Bottom line, lots to see and do "outside" this weekend and the weather will be cooperating.

Tomorrow evening will be the first of two Mayoral Debates you can watch here on News Channel 3. They are not without controversy! You can also watch these debates "on line," from our website: www.wreg.com Click on the "Click here for live Feeds" which is top right of our home page.

Okay, this is for our Executive Producer Richard. We couldn't put it on the air, but thought you'd enjoy it anyway.

Still looking for YOUR input on interesting Trivia Questions, email me, and I'll be sure to give you credit!

Great "viewing opportunity" tomorrow night of the Int'l Space Station, flying overhead Memphis at 7:43pm. Should be a nice evening to check it out. The Space Shuttle Atlantis is being "readied" for launch back to the ISS November 12th. There is "less than" a handful of shuttle missions left.

My friend Bob Bader sent this link, of the ISS coming together, great animation!

Planning for the weekend.

...
Weekend is almost here... the weather continues to improve.

After all the "fist-bumping" was said and done, the real reason the Dalai Lama came to Memphis unfolded.

Okay... for the weekend, you have the "Mid-South Fair" and you also have "MEMPHEST" the new fair, (at the Fair grounds) AND

the "Big Scoop" going on at Autozone Park

Saturday. Don't forget your "pop-tops!"

How many of these places have you visited? One of the "Top-10" is in Tennessee!
(I went 9 for 10 by the way)

Those looking for a new home, I have a location you may wish to check out.

Here's a place that's "out of this world" but because it has water, it's making news.

I'm having a little trouble coming to grips with THIS "25-year" anniversary.

Ever heard that phrase: "Oh you Big Baby!" It applies in this case.

He turned 60 yesterday, but that's not slowing him down. The Boss comes to Tennessee in November.

Once the skies clear, there are some good evening viewing opportunities for the ISS.

In Daybreak Trivia, how well do you know about "The US Supreme Court" and you've heard of the "Model-T", who built it?!

Did you see this? "Nothing but net!" More video on our Daybreak Video page.

First day of FALL

...
Did you have a chance to see Tim Simpson on "First at 4" Tuesday? He had the countdown clock and had a great time saying "so long" to summer, and hello to Fall. Our weather, while wet is still better than places, like, Australia.

Watched a bit of the Memphis Redbirds going for the title, it went to extra innings with the winner being determined by a wild pitch in the 11th.

Un-rivaled security at Tom Lee Park yesterday afternoon, with the Dalai Lama in town, meeting up with Mayor Myron Lowery. (the infamous "fist-bump")

Would you know how to greet the Dalai Lama? I'm a little confused on whether to use the Red Scarf or the White Scarf. Just start with step 4.

She's got the right stuff.

Looking to live a long, long life, maybe these tips will help.

Here's a little "Feel good" story for you.

In Daybreak Trivia, do you know what the "National Flower" is for the U.S.?

Or, when "AUTUMN" officially arrives in the SOUTHERN hemisphere?

We had some technical problems with our "Daybreak Birthdays" this morning, for which we apologize, if you missed them, you can see them here.

Last Day of Summer

...
This Tuesday started with rain and thunder, and rain chances will continue across the Mid-South. Don't forget our "3 on your cell" function for your PDA, or get the WREG app on your iPhone. It's free, just search for it at the app store.

Parts of the southeast, like in Georgia, are seeing 10 to 20 inches of rain, serious flooding, just incredible pictures. AND NOW, there are reports of a foot of snow in Colorado! All of this on the last day of summer. Fall officially begins around 4:18 pm. Here is the "Autumnal Equinox" explained.

Looking for help? Candace shared with you a web site that could be of assistance! Check it out.

Were you up late to see who was on Letterman last night?

And, the "Emmy's" drew MORE viewers this year.

Was this on purpose? Did he belong on the list to begin with?

Kris Anderson will be none to happy with Peyton Manning this morning. Want to see why? Click here. And who was that I saw on the side lines? Was that Tiger?

And, at the age of 47, a hall of famer has decided to jump back into the game.

Ever hear of the "Grand C-Max" it was at the "Frankfurt" auto show.

Here's an idea I agree with. Have you ever been in the "fast lane" at the check out counter, only to have the person in front of you, "whip out a checkbook" AFTER everything has been total-ed up?!? Folks, just bad form.

NASCAR has "the Chase" and the PGA Tour has the "FedEx Cup" Where does the tour stop this week?

Go REDBIRDS! ... They will be on ESPN tonight facing the Durham bulls, for the national title.

Brief Break from rain

...
Good morning Daybreakers... did you make it through the weekend with a minimal amount of interruption from Mother Nature? I sure hope so. Almost 2 inches of rain fell yesterday, today is looking quiet, but then more rain expected for the week ahead.

Watch the Emmy's last night? Here's a list of the winners. Here's an even MORE complete list.

The "Space Shuttle Discovery" is on its way home from Edwards in California. Took off Sunday morning on its 2,500 mile journey, stopping in Amarillo (TX) and again in Shreveport (LA) where it will refuel, spend the night, and finish the journey today. Should be a non-stop to KSC. All of this, weather cooperating, of course.

In college football over the weekend, congrats to the Tigers, and the Gators (although Tennessee put up a heck of a fight) for Arkansas, and also to our Redbirds.

In pro football, Houston came to visit Tennessee with the teams meeting a few hours to our East.

Did you check out the Cowboys new home?

Summer is almost over. The "Autumnal Equinox" is Tuesday evening, Wednesday will be the first day of Fall.

How old were you when you graduated from high school? 17? 18?
How about "13?"

Busy weekend at the box office, "Cloudy with a chance... " did BIG business.

We've seen a number of "passings" lately, I have a website that I've monitored over the years that has done a great, and respectful job of keeping up with them.

The "Mid-South Fair" is about to crank up, starts this Friday, at a new location. My guess is, if it works our really well, it could be a "permanent" location. Did you get the flyer in the paper Saturday?

Some are sad, some are just crazy... it's the "top 20" all time wildest "Craigslist" entries.

Wet Weekend? Hope not!

...
I know, I know, it's the weekend, doesn't "Mother Nature" know we have plans!?!? Be on the look out for stray showers through early next week. Updates on line.

Did you miss the "Mayoral Poll" we have been talking about? Here's the link.

The Tennessee Vols are headed to "the Swamp" this weekend to face Tebow and the #1 Gators. If you are not going, you can watch it here on WREG TV 3. (Saturday around 2pm)

Lots of things going on, including the "Sickle Cell" walk tomorrow, click on the box to the left to learn more.

Also, "Cooper Young" fest... art, music and food...
now if the weather will cooperate!

Later this morning, "Discovery" is scheduled to start it trek back home to the KSC. You'll remember bad weather forced NASA to divert to Edwards for the landing. Guess who came back on this ride?!?

I'm sure finding something like this will impress the professor!

Are you "un-happy?" Maybe this will "cheer you up."

Remember the story of the dad, who caught a foul ball at the game, gave it to his little girl, and then watched in horror when she tossed the ball back? That little girl is Speaking out !

In Daybreak Trivia this morning... 1927 it was the C P B S. Now it is....
and... who or what was "Pinto Colvig?!?"

So, you think your cake was fancy for your last birthday... try these!

Are you big into astrology, then you already knew this. But wasn't yesterday supposed to be catastrophic or something?

The news wasn't good, but wasn't catastrophic for our friends at FedEx.

Quick, which store do you associate Martha Stewart with?

Did you say K-Mart? You'd be wrong! She has a new deal, with a company you probably wouldn't think "Martha" She does not have kind things to say about her previous venture. (although I think it made her rich)

What's your take on the "Bermuda Triangle?" This report says "Mystery Solved."

Scientists say they have found a cure for color-blindness.
