"Flash Flood" Friday

...
The rain, has arrived. And it's going to be holding on most of the day. We're talking about "alot" of rain here. Parts of east Arkansas will end up with 5-7 inches of rain, west Tennessee, north Mississippi 2-4 inches. Flash Flood Warnings will be in effect through out the morning hours.

iPhone users follow along today with the WREG App, PDA users remember: "3 on your cell."

If there is any good news, watch the rain settle down later this afternoon, skies will clear for the weekend, and it will be a bit cooler, but DRY. Especially for the "trick or treaters" tomorrow night.

Our Candace McGowan was at the Agri-Center this morning, telling you about the "Merry Marketplace." Here's their website if you wish to learn more about it.

Be sure and watch that promo (just to the left of where you are reading) We are giving away $300, three times a day. Two times between 6-7am on Daybreak, and once on News Channel 3 at 10. From all the daily winners, one will be chosen to visit the "Cash Vault." It's filled with $100,000 in cash, and the big winner will carry out as much as they can in one big scoop.

A big "Happy 1st Birthday" to our friends at Classics Hits radio, 94.1 K Q K. Part of the
celebration is allowing friends from the media to fill in during their 94 hour
birthday party. Todd Demers will take over from 10am-11am Saturday morning, then listen for Jim Jaggers at 1pm. A BIG thanks to Brad Carson for helping pull all this together!

The "Yanks" evened it up last night with a win over the "Phillies."

Be sure to check out the "Does it Work" segment from Kris Anderson. I have it on our "Daybreak Videos" page. The professional tasters, our kids.

Rain returns

...
We've talked about it for several days now, it should come as no surprise. Rain is returning to the Mid-South, and it's going to be hanging around for a while. Several inches of rain will accumulate through Saturday.

Did you miss the "test" rocket launch from KSC yesterday? Can't miss that price tag!

Reading something like this will likely require a box of tissue.

Okay, don't put away the tissue just yet, one more story.

Here's a little something to pick you back up, she's doing better.

I'm not sure Yankees fans were expecting this result to last nights "Game one" of the World Series. Today they'll be muttering: "Utley"

Those that skipped the game and headed to the FedEx Forum to watch the Grizzlies, were likely muttering something else.

A "one day break" from the rain

...
Enjoy today's sunshine, rain is back for Thursday and Friday, and may be heavy at times. Patchy fog this morning, then nice, then rain after midnight.

Today is... October 28th, click on St. Jude to learn more.

They will try again to launch that ARES test rocket from the Kennedy Space Center. The weather is looking better for today.

Memphis Grizzlies with their home opener tonight, lots of deals and promotions that we talk about this morning on Daybreak. A preview of tonights entertainment for the game can be seen on our "Live at 9," with "Lil Rounds" and "Three 6 Mafia."

I can get behind this. Are you a fan of "Hall and Oates?" Please tell me you know who they are.

FACEBOOK is also having to deal with a tough subject. What to do when someone dies.

Happy Birthday to the "Pretty Woman," that's right Julia Roberts birthday is today. (She's 42) Check out this site for more "famous birthdays."

In Daybreak Trivia, we take on a Halloween theme.

It's a "49-hour" weekend, it's time to "Fall Back" as Daylight Saving Time ends.

It's Wet

...
As promised, "mother nature" has delivered on the rain, it's going to be with us through out the day, some areas picking up over an inch. Patchy Fog after midnight.

NASA is trying to launch an "Ares" rocket this morning. If the weather cooperates, it would happen at 7am Memphis time.

Mourners lined up and waited for hours last night for the visitation of the young Florida girl who disappeared on the way home from school a week ago. It's a story that hit very close to home for this writer.

In "Daybreak Trivia" learning more about "NAVY DAY," and other than the pumpkin, what other 'root vegetable' was once widely used to make JACK-O-LANTERNS?

MJ is getting rave reviews in his final film, it comes out soon, some got a sneak peak.

A sunny start

Good morning Daybreakers. A "up and down" week of weather just ahead. Hope you had a great weekend.

I know you have heard about a new contest we have going, here are the rules.

A C Wharton will be sworn in as Memphis Mayor. You can watch it all unfold live today on News Channel 3 at Noon.

In "Daybreak Trivia" this morning, the "Gunfight at the O-K corral" and "making peace" with Israel in 1979.

In all kinds of sports news now, in case you missed it, the Yankees are heading back to the World Series. They will face the Phillies. (BTW, Producer Rachel tells me that "transit workers in Philly" are about to go on strike, which could make it interesting, as games 3 and 4 would be in the city of brotherly love)

In other sports news, find your favorite team and watch the clips via NFL.com. Or in NASCAR,
or in college football from over the weekend.

Looking WET

...
We're moving into a rather "wet period" here in the Mid-South over the next few days. Rain likely later this afternoon and tonight, ending tomorrow, then MORE rain Wednesday night and Thursday. Then we clear up and cool down for the weekend. Remember, those of you with iPhones, to download the free "WREG" APP. Other PDA users try this http://3onyourcell.com

The big "News" from WREG today involves "WHO" will be invited to the final debate before the city mayoral election this Thursday. There will be a new face on the screen.

Michael Jacksons song "This is it" has come out, but I'm not feeling the love.

Kris Anderson is a happy man this morning, his Dolphins managed to hang on last night in Monday Night Football. He'll have lots to say on Daybreak. In other NFL news, a little "behind the scenes" action that will tug at your heart.

I'm beginning to think this girl is going to give ELVIS a run for his money when it comes to marketing. She's a machine. I can hear the cash registers screaming. She hasn't gone "THIS FAR" yet.

I've got another home "for sale" it's been discounted, but has a nice view.

I've spoke with the owner, (granted it' was 20 years ago) but I'm sure you'll know her name, and recognize her face. A delightful lady, downsizing.

I'll bet this is going to cost him. It's beginning to look more and more like "Professional Wrestling" on the track. As NASCAR winds down in the "Chase" for the cup, one name keeps popping up, and it gets "LOTS" of attention, everytime.

You'll remember her name, but you may no longer recognize her face, or her sound. But know what? She's okay with it.

The "Presidents Cup" held our attention in the golf world this past weekend. THIS weekend, a Memphis (and superstar) will host the tour in Las Vegas!

Here's something you can TIVO tonight, and watch another time.

In our DAYBREAK TRIVIA: we asked you how many ships were ordered when the US NAVY was put into place... And who was the first president to reside in the "White House."

Back to work

...
How was your weekend? We're watching heavy rain overnight, across north Mississippi this morning, but temperature wise: much cooler weather is ahead: Take a look at the 7-day for what to expect the rest of this week.

What's so special about this photo of the Duke family?

Okay... find your team in the NFL....and for college football....and for NASCAR...

Did you watch any of the "Presidents Cup" in golf? I think the International Team put up a bigger fight than expected. The world of golf did get some interesting news, I think we know a few of the players who will be on the team in 2016!

So they are looking for water on the moon, but the process was NOT as exciting as advertised.

Who was "Tops" at the box office over the weekend? The film "Couples Retreat" has been big news, but some think the star of that film, may need to find some better roles.

I'm a little in shock to be hearing this, but fans of the "Young and Restless," can you do without the main star? That's right, Victor Newman may be gone after November 2nd. Read the interview from the Hollywood Insider as contract negotiations have broken down. They'd ask him to take a pay cut, and true to his character, he's playing hardball, ready to walk.

It's all the rage on the other side of the pond, I wonder though if something like this would ever catch on here in the states.

Not certain this is a record, but I'll bet she's in a rather exclusive group to achieve this feat. Number 19 is on the way for the Duggars family, a "grandchild" was born Friday. A record I'm not sure anyone is going to challenge.

Last week we were sharing with you the exploits of a space tourist, a performer, who was true to his word... see what he did, all while circling the earth at 17,500 mph. AND, 12 days in space goes by quick, the circus space tourist returned home safely Sunday.

We haven't heard from this guy in a long while (for good reason) but you are about to hear from him, songs you hadn't heard before

December 21st, 2012. Are you worried? The "Mayans" say, don't be.

Today is "Columbus Day" right? well, that Christopher Columbus.... he wasn't "all" good.

Wet Weather for this Friday

...
Yesterday it was windy and warm, today it's going to be "wet and wild," with 1 to 2 inches of rain possible from "sun-up" to "sun-down." Austen Onek is helping you "weather the storm" this morning, Todd Demers will join you for the evening newscasts today.

There's a great organization with a great event planned for this weekend, check out "Fayette Cares" (as in Fayette County, TN) The event is "A Night of Southern Elegance" in Somerville, check it out! It benefits those, affected by domestic violence.

Behind the scenes with Tiger and Lefty. The competition OFF the fairway.

The "President's Cup" is underway this morning, here's Tiger with his friend Steve Stricker.

Yesterday on Daybreak, we mentioned a "Christian based" movie being filmed here in the Memphis area, learn more by calling them at (901) 386-8988. Their website is "The Gracecard."

Do you "give" on a regular basis? I'm talking about Blood. Lifeblood would love to welcome you into their family. Learn all about them.
AND, you can get cool gifts via "Club LifeBlood."

We laughed about this on Daybreak Thursday, because the top 3 were Markova's favorites.

Windy, Warmer

...
Okay, the wild ride of weather continues with a rapid warm-up, along with some gusting southerly winds. Rain, and lots of it, likely to return tomorrow.

You could be in the northern plains, where it is about to get REALLY interesting!

Phone number for those interested in being an "EXTRA" in the movie "The Gracecard" being filmed here in Memphis: (901) 386-8988.

We are in full "H1N1" flu Prevention mode this morning.
How can you tell if your symptoms match this flu? Try here.
AND... what the government is doing to help: http://www.flu.gov

You have to admit, this was neat. What an imagination. It's being called "The BEST Wedding Slide show" ever. I would say "most creative" not necessarily the "Best," but I'll let you decide.

Daybreak Trivia: What "stock" got Martha Stewart in trouble?
and... also, a little baseball trivia, one of the magical, "perfect" moments.

Tomorrow morning, I think I'll be watching when they send a missile into the moons surface. I wonder if we can carry that live?

Not everyone is happy about it!

While we are in space, in case you missed the pictures yesterday about those "giant new rings" found on Saturn, check this out.

I think this is the saddest real life soap opera I've ever seen. Wonder how the baby is doing.

This saga is also sad, but doesn't compare, yet.

The "Brain-iest" States? Top 10, and Bottom 10. New poll, and once again the Mid-South gets hammered again. Go ahead, take a guess which list TN, AR and MS fall in....

At least our airport is getting accolades. I've been most impressed everytime I visit.

It's that time of year, maybe to catch a flight and visit the locations where the leaves are changing colors. When is the best time for viewing?

Weather Roller Coaster

...
Clearing and mild today, with most of the rain to our south. Northeast winds are back. We will warm quickly tomorrow before Thunderstorms return to the area on Friday. Follow along on our WREG APP on your iPhone, or "3 on your cell" from your PDA. Chill returns for the weekend.

BTW, I know about this tropical system "Henri," it is expected to weaken into, next to nothing, very quickly.

Stonehenge... new clues to the ancient past.

And we look to the future, with Nobel Prize winners

And now to the present. What's going to happen with our Pyramid?

Right now, this seems like a long shot, but wow, it would be so great if it actually happened. Billions to be spent on a new "auto-plant" in Tunica, thousands of jobs possible.

Talk show host/NFL team owner? Really? It's a town he loves. And I'll bet he's got the cash.

Guess who is teaming up with the world's largest retailer? It's great for those who are looking to drop a few pounds.

And Target is not taking the "price cuts" lightly, matching the Big Box retailer.

How BIG, was the "BIG GAME" Monday night? (you know, the Favre vs Packers)

Another "Big Time" quarterback, looked like he and his front line were Moonlighting. How in the world did the team owners "green light" this!?

If NFL, or NASCAR or NCAA football is not enough for you this weekend, GOLF is back in the picture.

Daybreak Trivia: Do you remember the election in California that actor turned politician Arnold Schwarzenegger finally won? How many candidates were in that race...? AND .. what Andrew Lloyd Weber play is the SECOND longest running show on Broadway?
