More great weather

After a wonderful weekend, mother nature has decided to end the month of August with a day worthy of "calling in sick."  It's just that good.

Space Shuttle Discovery docked with the Int'l Space Station last night, after finally blasting off Friday night.  After a close inspection of the heat shield, it's off to work transferring 17,000 pounds of supplies, and beginning the month long task of putting together the COLBERT exercise machine.

Guess what famous Memphian is thinking about being in a musical?   His intitials are JT !  And he hangs out in Memphis with his girl Jessica.

Maybe it's a myth, but am told that telemarketers will get access to "cell phone" numbers tomorrow, just to be safe, you may wish to get your number blocked.   Here's the place you can go:   https://www.donotcall.gov/

Talent comes in many different forms.  Are you into sand?  I urge you to take a moment to watch this.  It's the Ukranian Sand Art Girl.

Do you agree with this "Top 10" List? Don't stop, 'til you get enough.

She's coming to town in late October, as we continue our links with those musically talented.

Feeling lucky?  There is a home that is being raffled off,

Welcome to Friday!

...
Okay.. the weekend is here, and our cold front is still set to move on through.  Not as much rain as first thought but at least that "cooler" air is still scheduled to makes it way into our area.

If you are a "regular" reader of "Seen on Daybreak," please take a moment to let everyone know you "follow" us, and maybe invite your friends to do the same, I've placed the link, just to the left.  I'd love to share 'your' smiling face with our Daybreak family.

Still keeping a close eye on "Danny" out in the Atlantic,
and whether or not the "outer banks" of North Carolina
will feel the effects.  The storm is not that strong.

Memphis and Shelby county, time for "Flu Shots!"

You may be on the "Do Not Call" registry, but there are some new rules in place to help keep those "automated" phone calls from bugging you at all hours of the day.

Is Allen Iverson ready to make Memphis his home?  He's been on twitter this week, letting everyone know he's ready to lead this team, and loves this city!

Don't forget, next weekend, is when Tim and the entire gang from here at WREG TV 3 will be hosting the annual "Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon" for Jerry's Kids, and the fight to cure Muscular Dystrophy.

You can watch the fun starting Sunday night, (Sept 6th)  you can call in your pledge or you can do it "on line."    Please use the "Other" category in making sure you share "For Memphis, TN" so they'll know to add it to the tote board!
...
You can click on Jerry (to the left) to get to the countdown clock and the telethon's main website.  They are on TWITTER and FACEBOOK.  Jump on board, share this with your friends, let's make a difference.

This is an amazing story about the kidnapped 11 year old girl who turns up 18 years later, ALIVE!

Ted Kennedy 1932-2009

Good morning everyone.   Our brief break from summer is over, We'll be near 90 over the next several days before our next cold front helps cool us down for next week....

A great deal of network and local news coverage will be shared this morning on the passing of Ted Kennedy.  You will likely remember this quote:

"Some men see things as they are and say why.
I dream things that never were and say why not."

At the funeral of his brother

From the Washington Post.

Our new president, do you know what he enjoys most about vacation?

This time, it wasn't the weather that kept the Discovery on the ground.

Mission controllers will meet tomorrow, to discuss the next possible launch attempts for later this week, around midnight.

Our Trivia this morning is almost "out of this world" with plans to get back to the moon, it's not called "Apollo" anymore.  What's the new and improved name for our travels to the moon?  Some have called it:  "Apollo on steroids!"  The question involved the "Name" of the space craft.    Our 2nd trivia question involved Polio.

Just FYI,  the National Hurricane Center is keeping an eye on an
area of disturbed weather, it's out in the Atlantic.  Most models show this storm staying off the coast and curling back to the north east if it forms into Tropical Storm "Danny" later today.

The winner of that 260 MILLION Dollar powerball has come forward to claim his check, but he's being pretty tight lipped on his plans for the future, and rightfully so!

Does this guy look familiar?
probably not, but his work with the king of rock  and roll
will live on.  As a session keyboardist and bassist, he performed with a number of artists like the Beach Boys, Elvis Costello, the Doors, Billy Joel, Hank Williams, Jr., Randy Newman and Ray Charles.

Speaking of music, our own Justin Timberlake is holding a mega-benefit concert in Vegas mid October, and you should see some of the star power he's bringing to the table!

Don't forget to stop by our website through out the day for the latest news, weather and sports updates.

As a new owner of an iPhone, (well, let's face it, Patti gets the iPhone, the kids use more than I do) I have been thrilled with the help and service, especially from Corie, out at the ATT store in Southaven.  This story also has merit, that there are still people out there willing to help you. (Search the store for the free WREG app)

My friend and co-worker Tim Simpson will be leading the way for the annual MDA telethon this year, the countdown is underway!  It starts Sept 6th. Please watch, and call in a pledge!

Then, later in September, it's the "Go Jim Go" bike ride to raise money for LeBohneur! Learn more about Jim Jaggers and how you can help!

Good Morning Daybreakers

...
I hope you don't mind be called a "Daybreaker,"  many good friends are at "AutoZone" and they call them selves "AutoZoners!"  Either way, more great weather is heading your way, and even with a warm up toward the weekend, our next cold front is ready to lay the "smack down" on summer by Monday!

Ready to make the move to St. Paul?  We talked about a foreclosure special!

Sure enough, I say there is an 80 percent chance for the weather to cooperate and thundershowers pop up at the last minute for the launch of the shuttle Discovery.  They'll try again around midnight.

Did you read about the autopsy results for Michael Jackson?

The crown finally is on the head of Ms. Universe.

Out for a bite of lunch today? Ever wonder the
cost of a Big Mac, 'round the world?

A World Leader getting the "Cold Shoulder" in Jersey.

Did you hear about the taxi cab driver in Arizona... and his relationship to one of his fares?

Want to see how a clever reporter handled his latest story?  This reporter used to work here, is in Nashville now, and I'm proud to call him a friend.  Give this a listen.

In our Daybreak Trivia... Sean Connery    and then   "National Parks"

16 years ago she won an Oscar, what's this "Piano" star been up to?

I love the way these had "90 day" warrantys.  How many years ago?  One is now "stuck in the sand" has been for months, they are still trying to break free!

Keeping an eye on the tropics?  So am I.

Our "Group Photo" from "Butchart Gardens" has arrived, and I've placed  it on our "Rail Roading in the Rockies" Blog...  lots of great pictures and video there if you haven't made a stop by.
(Day 7 of the video, is my favorite, click on the picture to the left, go ahead.)

What a weekend!

I can only hope you took our advice and "got outside" this past weekend. Our high temperature hit 80 Saturday, and 81 Sunday.

Even though "Hurricane Bill" is no more, it was deadly. Here, "high surf" hits the coast line of Maine. (Bill is no longer a hurricane as of this morning)

Tonight (or early tomorrow morning) the Space Shuttle Discovery is set to lift off, on its way to the Int'l Space Station. I'm calling it the "Colbert Mission." Will you be up early to watch the blast? If not, we'll have it for you on Daybreak tomorrow morning.

His movies are great, but just too violent for me. His latest sits alone atop the box office with many positive reviews.

I don't stay up late enough to watch shows like this anymore, but congrats to Ms. Venezuela.

A SOLO "triple play" to end the game? Don't see that very often.

The "First Family" is on vacation this week, but they are not getting a break from the prying eyes of the press.

"Idol" from overseas... is this audition as good as "Simon Says"?

The movie "Time to Kill" was on TNT last night, my 13 year was seeing it for the first time, and heard the story of how her "old man" got a "walk on role" with a new upstart actor named Matthew.

"Living Large" on the small size scale? Huh? better have direct TV.

This is some pretty dramatic video of a plane landing on a highway. Although I'm not sure the video matched the story! There are other "amazing" videos involving aircraft for you to "thumb through" at the bottom of that video window.

In our Daybreak Trivia this morning, a popular movie got a number of awards, but do you know how many?

And wow, do we love our Potato Chips, any idea how much we eat, each year?
