Drying out, colder

...
Our spell of fantastic weather has come crashing to an end. More than an inch of rain Sunday. While the rain may be done for a while, the cold air has returned, and will be hanging around for the remainder of the week. More than 10 degrees below normal.

Welcome home Shuttle Endeavour. Landing last night at KSC about 9:20 Memphis time. What a great mission. Only four shuttle launches left as the ISS is nearly complete.

On Daybreak this morning, I mentioned "Severe Weather Awareness Week." Here is some helpful information.

You've made it

...
Maybe it's because I haven't felt the best this week, but time seems to slow down on the weeks you are not 100%. That being said, I'm thrilled to welcome you to Friday, with some FANTASTIC weather to boot.

It's another "Get out and enjoy it while you can" kinda days, since rain is back by Sunday, maybe even a Thundershower, we'll be watching!

What a day. A chilly start, but then warming up nicely, rain chances return WAY too soon. So get out there and enjoy todays weather to its fullest.

The "Tiger" is about to say a few words (tomorrow morning) but he's not taking questions. Many say this is his first step into getting back to work.

It appears to be "Feast" or "Famin" for the Mid-South when it comes to "A.I." This year, a drought.

After what appears to be a very successful trip into space, the crew of the Space Shuttle Endeavour are packing up and getting ready to come home. They will "un-dock" from the Int'l Space Station Friday, and are due home Sunday, weather permitting. They took a call Thursday, from the commander in chief.

Seems like there is still snow on the ground from Monday, and already there is another threat of 1-3 inches across parts of north Mississippi tonight and tomorrow. Use I-40 as your dividing line, along and south of I-40, the best chances for more snow.

Here's a re-cap of what happened here Monday.

Today's forecast is still cold, and just getting ready for tonight.

Here's an early look at what may be coming your way, Mississippi:n According to the folks at the NWS office in Jackson, they are keeping all the snow to themselves. Click on this map for the latest.

Super Weekend

...

Rain ending today, but maybe an icy mix over night, another blast of cold air moving in Monday, another chance for ice/snow early Tuesday.

$300, two times this morning on Daybreak.
Between 6-7am.

It's time. Time to stand up and be counted and make your decision as to who you think will win the Superbowl, which you will be watching on News Channel 3 and WREG for most of Sunday.

It's the emotional story of the talented underdog Saints, post-Katrina, first time in the "Big game" against the fine tuned machine known as the Colts with Peyton Manning as their general.

This is going to be fun, because even Colts fans can't be too disappointed if the Saints win, let's just hope for a great, close game.

Be happy you are not Archie Manning.

With that said... Here's where "Team Daybreak" brings to the table:

Those thinking the Colts are going to win, include:

Todd, Corie and Kris. Our photographer Greg Tate, Producers Richard and Rachel, Audio Denise, Tape editor Gary, Floor crew member Patrick and Master Control's John Lee.

Those who think the Saints are going win:

Markova, Melissa Moon, Candace McCowan, Producer Eric, Director Ed, Chyron Eddie, Floor Crew Antoine and Ryan. Our Assistant News Director Bob Noonan, is from New Orleans, and was even at the game with Minnesota.

Hope he's not "on call" Sunday.
You can see him leading the parade on "Live at 9" this morning, you'll have to check this out.

Those that really don't care:
Ethel, Joel, (and Kris, who initially chose the Dolphins)

It's a cold rain for the Mid-South today. Rain that will likely linger through the day. Temps will hold in the lower 40's this afternooon, and in the upper 30's overnight.

As if I need to remind you, $300, 2 times this morning, between 6 and 7am.

Mid week

...
While chilly, today will likely be one of the nicer days of the week... Rain returns for Thur/Fri and still a slight chance for snow Friday night, but I think it will be more to our north.

Just days away from our latest Space Shuttle Launch... currently set for the early morning hours of February 7th. If all goes according to plan, I will have some exciting news for you fans of space travel, be here on Monday for the announcement.

Grizzlies were on the road last night, how'd they fare against King James?

In case you missed it, Sandra Bullock AND her film "The Blind Side" have been nominated for Oscars. Make your picks before the March 7th announcement of the winners. Not everyone agrees on "Film of the year" selection.
